Factors Behind Changes in Business Performance

Revenue declined due to lower crude oil sales volumes. The ¥169.5 billion decrease in revenue attributable to lower sales volumes was partly offset by a ¥49.2 billion increase from higher average selling prices, a ¥55.6 billion increase from the yen's depreciation against other currencies based on average exchange rates, and a ¥16.2 billion increase from other revenue. Operating profit edged up due to increases in other operating income and investment income accounted for using the equity method, while interim profit attributable to owners of the parent increased due in part to the decrease in income tax expense.

The reasons the company gives

The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.

The main reason for the decline in revenue was lower crude oil sales volumes. Profit was supported by increases in other operating income and investment income accounted for using the equity method, as well as a decrease in income tax expense. The full-year forecast was revised mainly to reflect solid production at the Ichthys Project and a review of the assumptions for crude oil prices and foreign exchange rates from the third quarter onward.
