The reasons the company gives

The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.

Revenue increased mainly because domestic selling prices for electrolytic copper rose in the Metals segment (Smelting). Operating profit increased due to foreign exchange effects in the Metals segment (Smelting), higher copper prices and lower production costs in the Metals segment (Mining), and other factors. Ordinary profit was roughly unchanged year on year because of deterioration in equity-method investment gains and losses and the recognition of foreign exchange losses, while net income increased mainly because of higher gains on the sale of shares held.
