Factors Behind Changes in Business Performance

The Marine Resources business reported higher revenue and income, driven by structural reforms, the effects of production improvements and increased sales of farmed fish and walleye pollock products. The Food Materials Distribution business reported higher revenue due to higher selling prices, improved profitability of core products and contributions from European subsidiaries, but income declined because of higher costs and price fluctuations in imported frozen pork. The Processed Foods business benefited from solid sales of its pet food business in Thailand and materials for pharmaceutical products, but income declined because it failed to meet its sales plan following price revisions and was affected by higher raw material costs and higher costs.
